Live in Concert
With “Home Alone,” director Chris Columbus created a film in 1990 that continues to delight generations to this day. For many, the film starring Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) is an integral part of the winter and Christmas season—not least thanks to the two crooks, Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern), who are as chaotic as they are unforgettable. The cult film is now being transformed into a special live experience with “Home Alone: Live in Concert,” which will go on tour in Germany for the first time this December. While the full-length film is shown on the big screen, the Neue Philharmonie performs the film’s score in sync with the action. Together with the University of Cologne Choir, they create a soundscape that conveys the story’s emotions directly to the audience—sometimes warm and touching, sometimes thrilling and full of energy. John Williams’ music is far more than mere accompaniment: it lends the story its brilliance, amplifies both the grand and the quiet moments, and, when played live, creates a genuine goosebumps-inducing experience. This allows audiences to experience the beloved film anew—more intensely, more intimately, and more impressively than ever before. On December 7, 2026, the Alte Oper will be transformed into a place filled with winter magic, deep emotions, and unforgettable moments.
